Who We're Designing For

Below are the personas of different people impacted by equity in the classroom.

Bio

Miriam is a 5th grader at Sunflower Elementary. She loves to read and write, and goes above and beyond. Miriam is also a proud hijabi who sees it as a testament to her faith and identity as a strong young lady.

Age: 12 years old

Education Level: Elementary 

School System: Chatham County Schools

Socioeconomic Status: Upper Middle Class

Bio

Dr. Altenworth earned a Bachelor of Education from UNC Chapel Hill and a Master of Educational Leadership from NC State. He earned his Ph.D in Curriculum and Instruction  from Old Dominion University.

Age: 55

Title: Director of Student and Educator Engagement

He started his career working with Durham Public Schools where he eventually moved into the role of Assistant Principal and later Guidance Counselor. Dr. Altenworth was dedicated to implementing equity-based practices in his school ecosystem.

Bio

Kaitlynn is a fifth grade history teacher. She was raised in a predominantly white, liberal area and moved to North Carolina to teach. She has heard of her county's equity offices and thinks it sounds good. She hasn't engaged with their materials or workshops because she doesn't think they're for or about her.

Bio

Clifford is an employee at the District office for Wake County. He's been with the district for 5 years after teaching in the classroom for over 20 years. He is passionate about educating the next generation and believes all students deserve an environment where they can learn and thrive in a way that works best for their learning style.
